A person who contaminated candy with tranquilliser and distributed them to children at a summer camp in the region has pleaded guilty to sexual offenses against two boys aged between nine and ten.

Jon Ruben was detained after eight minors and an older person became sick at Stathern Lodge in July.

The senior citizen, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, confessed to a series of 17 offences when he appeared at the judicial center on Friday.

Yet, he disputed one of the sexual offences he was charged with, which was involving a nine-year-old child.

Ruben was held in detention ahead of a additional proceeding on late November.

'Sweet game'

The legal representative, handling the case, detailed the defendant's actions to the judicial body.

She said his victims were disadvantaged youngsters who were participating in a summer camp which he ran.

Ruben played a "sweet game" with the children, Mrs Prior explained, in which he would enter the boys' rooms when they were preparing to sleep and tell them to ingest treats "rapidly".

She informed the proceedings the defendant had engaged in this activity with the children "for many years", and children had earlier experienced illness the next day.

She stated the defendant had been capable of justifying this for many years as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepchild had suspicions in summer 2025.

The legal representative added: "In the summer" his stepson had worries about what was going on, with valid cause.

"They chose" to examine in the man's possessions."

The prosecutor said items including lubricant, Vaseline and medical needles were located, and his stepson alerted the law enforcement about his suspicions.

She stated the man went on to conduct the "candy game" with six youngsters that time - Saturday 26 July - and they were all sick the following morning.

"The police had not gone out by that time," she continued.

The police watchdog, the police conduct office, had stated that it was reviewing law enforcement's management of the events.

Mrs Prior explained the youngsters were struggling to walk due to being ill, so the stepson notified the authorities once more.

She explained the man then played the "sweet game" in a area of five youngsters.
